Q: Blogs, fans, updates, newsletters, followers, posts, linkbacks — there are so many aspects of content marketing. It’s a little overwhelming! How do I get started?
A: Feeling like a deer in headlights?
Don’t be paralyzed by the fear of content marketing’s complexities. Start small, plant seeds, and let it grow. Nothing worth doing is easy, but it doesn’t have to be a tear-your-hair-out venture either!
Start with one outlet: a social media channel, blog, or newsletter. Commit to doing that one thing well and with consistency. When you feel you have a grasp of it, add a second and take the same approach — quality and consistency. This method also helps you determine what works and what doesn’t. Then you won’t spend valuable time and resources marketing in venues that don’t produce results. In time, managing the parts and pieces will be easier because you took time to do each one right from the beginning.
Alternatively, turn to your employees. After all, they’re the ones who know your company best. Encourage employees to promote the company through social media and word-of-mouth. Also ask them for content ideas; let their positive experiences with your company and brand shine through the content you (and they) create.
Never be afraid to ask for help. You are an expert at your business. Do you have the time and energy to also become an expert at content marketing? If not, outsource to a company whose business is content marketing. It’s a surefire way to get quicker results with less headaches!
